Profile

Balancing intense training with academic work taught Bronwyn resilience and time management. Following many long hours of practice, the club encouraged her to compete at the British Adult National Championships, where she took home a bronze medal in the silver category and was recognised for her sporting excellence at the Heriot-Watt Blues Award.

What programme did you study and why did you choose it?

I studied International Business Management and Languages to not only learn the basics of business management but also to apply it in an international setting. This is especially useful, as speaking different languages helps with communication in global environments.

What extra-curricular activities have you gotten involved with?

I joined the cheerleading club in my first year, but over the past year, I have been part of the ice-skating committee as the figure officer, providing one-to-one sessions on the ice and encouraging people to compete in their first ever competition.

During my final year, the Ice-Skating Club became a major source of support and motivation during my studies. I had skated in synchronised ice-skating championships when I was younger, but never in figure skating, until the club encouraged me to start again. I began training seriously with a coach and eventually competed at the British Adult National Championships, where I won a bronze medal in the silver category.

It was challenging, but figure skating gave me focus and a sense of achievement beyond the classroom.

How does it feel to have received the Heriot-Watt Blues Award?

Receiving this award really showcased my ability to push myself and achieve the goals I set for the year. It felt amazing to know that I had accomplished everything I worked so hard for.

Did you get any support during your time at Heriot-Watt?

I received help from the Careers Team with drafting and reviewing my CV and cover letter, as well as support from Student Wellbeing team, especially in relation to being a carer.

What’s your favourite / most memorable moment from your time as a Heriot-Watt student?

As part of my degree, I spent a year abroad in Lyon, France, where I further improved my French and gained valuable experience adapting to a new culture and environment and connecting with international friends.

What advice do you have for current students?

Don’t give up. If you put in the effort, you will be overwhelmed with the results.

What are you planning to do after you graduate?

I plan to work in a graduate management role and train to become a manager at an international company.
