What programme did you study and why did you choose it?

I pursued an M.Sc. in Actuarial Management with Data Science because it offers exemptions from the later IFoA exams, while also providing a strong foundation in data science, a field that is increasingly integral to the insurance industry today.

What were the key differences you found between studying in India and Scotland?

The key differences lie in Scotland's unique charm, particularly in Edinburgh, which boasts stunning beauty and the most captivating architecture. The air quality here is excellent, adding to its appeal. Additionally, classroom teaching in Scotland is highly industry-focused, providing a deeper understanding of business and practical knowledge.

What do you enjoy most about campus life?

The campus is truly stunning, almost like a self-contained town, with access to all essential services at any time. I especially enjoyed evening walks around the campus, which were always refreshing and peaceful. Living in the University halls was a memorable experience that I will always cherish.

Can you tell us about what prize you received and how it feels to be a prize-winning student?

I am honoured to be receiving the Best M.Sc. Project award for my dissertation and coursework achievements throughout the academic year. It feels incredibly rewarding to have my efforts recognized by the University. With my parents flying in from India to attend my graduation, receiving this award in their presence is sure to make them proud, and that fills me with immense joy.

Did you get any careers or employability support during your time at Heriot-Watt?

Yes, I had my CV reviewed by the Careers Service team. Additionally, I received tremendous support from my professors, who guided me in preparing for interviews and ultimately helped me secure a job.

What are you planning to do after you graduate?

I have secured a position as a Pricing Actuary at one of the largest insurance companies in the UK, and I plan to start working there after graduation.
