After 16 years of professional experience in the construction industry, I took a decisive step to further my career by enrolling in the MSc in Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management at Heriot-Watt University. I chose this programme to formalise my knowledge, deepen my understanding of global best practices, and align my future work with the evolving demands of the construction industry.
Specifically, I choose to study at Heriot-Watt due to its strong industry links, international reputation, and practical approach to teaching, making it the perfect choice for furthering my career.

The support available at Heriot-Watt played a crucial role in my journey. From approachable personal tutors, lecturers and academic skill workshops to career services and personal wellbeing resources, I always felt guided and supported.
On a personal note, my academic journey would not have been possible without the unwavering support of my spouse. His encouragement, patience, and belief in my vision gave me the strength to stay committed, even during the most demanding moments. This journey was a shared sacrifice, and his support transformed my ambition into a shared success.
What advice do you have for current students?
To current students, I’d say stay curious, make the most of every opportunity, and don’t hesitate to ask for help. Your University network will become one of your greatest assets.
