How did you feel when you found out you’d been awarded a £2,000 bursary?

When I found out I had been awarded the Postgrad Solutions Bursary for £2,000, I was so happy but also extremely relieved! It came as a massive surprise! This bursary will make a huge difference to me as I was having to use student loans to pay for my fees and any money I was making from my part-time job. This takes a significant amount of the burden off me and relieves a lot of stress, which will allow me to focus on my studies. I am still so surprised but so thankful to Postgrad Solutions for awarding me with this bursary.

Why did you choose Heriot-Watt University for your postgrad studies?

Having studied my undergraduate degree in Edinburgh at Napier, I knew that I wanted to stay within Edinburgh for my masters degree, but wanted to try somewhere different! I was drawn to Heriot-Watt University to its research-informed teaching, industry links and specialisms in sustainable sourcing and decarbonisation. Its globally oriented program enables me to engage with real-world case studies, which prepare me for the complex, interconnected supply networks of today and tomorrow. The campus itself was another factor, with it being surrounded by nature, including woodlands, loads of nature trails, wildflower meadows, and even a loch, which really gives the place a quiet and calm atmosphere – making it a great place to study! It also provides a really supportive environment for postgrad students, having a dedicated postgraduate facility and plenty of resources for academic and career support.

What postgraduate course are you studying?

My PG course is an MSc in Logistics and Supply Chain Management. I studied an undergraduate degree in Accounting, which allowed me to develop strong analytical and financial management skills that deepened my understanding of how businesses can create and measure value. However, my interests lie in how this can be done responsibly – particularly through sustainable operations and ethical resource management. This inspired me to pursue an MSc in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, where I can explore how global supply chains can be optimised not only for efficiency and profitability, but also for environmental and social impact. I am particularly drawn to areas such as sustainable procurement, green logistics, and supply chain transparency, where I can apply my accounting expertise to evaluate the financial implications of sustainability initiatives. Ultimately, I aim to contribute to the development of responsible, data-driven supply chain strategies that support both business performance and long-term sustainability goals.

What are some of the highlights of your postgraduate course?

I am really enjoying my course so far, with some of the highlights being learning about how to improve sustainability within freight transport in my ‘Freight transport and warehouse management’ class, as well as writing about how sustainability can be facilitated and coupled with classic operation objectives within business operations to increase an organisation's performance and enable them in reaching sustainability goals, in my ‘Operations management’ class.

What have been some of the influencing factors to your PG study pathway?

Similar to my reasoning for choosing this course, studying my undergraduate degree in Accounting at Edinburgh Napier significantly influenced my path, as this is where I first discovered my interest in sustainability in the context of business, and how organisations could implement sustainability into their business practices – with my undergraduate dissertation even focusing on how increased reporting on sustainability KPIs [key performance indicators] within fast-fashion companies could increase their revenues using the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs). I knew that I wanted to build upon this foundation in the business context, which resulted in me choosing a logistics and supply chain management course.

Have you made much use of our website, Postgrad.com, during your PG journey?

While exploring my options for postgraduate study, I found Postgrad.com to be an incredibly useful and reliable platform. It helped me understand the range of opportunities available in fields that bridge business, sustainability, and global operations – ultimately guiding me towards the MSc in Logistics and Supply Chain Management at Heriot-Watt. The website made it easy to compare course structures, entry requirements, and career outcomes, which was especially valuable as someone transitioning from an accounting background. I also appreciated the detailed advice articles and funding information, which clarified the practical aspects of applying for a master's degree in the UK. Using Postgrad.com gave me a clearer sense of direction and confidence that Heriot-Watt’s program matched both my professional goals and my interest in sustainable business practices.
