What’s your experience of living in Edinburgh? Where did you live during your time at Heriot-Watt, and what was that like?
I have lived in Edinburgh for over two and a half years now with the same flatmates from my hometown. Edinburgh is amazing and I love it. I learned lot of new things, experienced a new culture, and met lots of new people. I feel like the University has some magnetic power over me, especially the library, which is my favourite place on campus.
Can you tell us more about your unique family connection to Heriot Watt?
Initially, it was my brother’s plan to come abroad and study, and I followed in his footsteps. It was my brother’s dream to study at Heriot-Watt, but I got the offer first. One week later, my brother happily got his very own offer. My brother and I and our parents were on cloud 9. We are graduating together, which feels like a dream. My brother and I both studied in the same class, helping each other understand new concepts and learning materials.
Did you do a placement during your degree programme? If so, tell us more about this and any industry links you’ve made?
Yes, both me and my brother did a nine-month placement at the University. I worked in Assurance Services, and he worked in the LINCS department. The team were amazing, and I have a lot of great memories from it. I had the chance to work closely with some of the University Executives and I am sure this experience will help me in my future career journey.
I learned a lot during my time at Assurance Services and am immensely grateful to Jon Dye and the amazing team. Working at Assurance Services also helped me to know more about the University and how our business works, including our commitment to our staff and students.
What’s your favourite / most memorable moment from your time as a Heriot-Watt student?
My most beautiful memories at University were made during my placement. All my friends graduated last year, as their course was only one year and I was completing my placement, so I was able to help with their graduation ceremonies as a staff member. I was able to assist my friends when they graduated, which was a memorable and proud moment for me. I also enjoyed all the lectures and discussions in the library, which are some of my favourite memories.
What advice do you have for current students?
I would advise current students to focus on their studies more than anything else, as this will help them build a wonderful career. But also, don’t forget to live your life. The University is here to help with anything you need so make sure to ask for help and enjoy the beautiful journey during your time at Heriot-Watt.
What are you planning to do after you graduate?
I am currently a contact employee at Assurance Services (yes, luckily, I am still with the University). I am also searching for new job opportunities and truly believe that my time at a prestigious University like Heriot-Watt will help me achieve my desired career.
