Was there anything you enjoyed the most about your programme?
I loved the final stage of every design studio project when everything clicked into place from the floor plans and elevations to the finished renders. Presenting the final result to my peers and showing them what I'd been working on was really rewarding. I also loved using laser cutting to turn my 2D floor plans into physical 3D models.
Did you use our career services?
The careers service was an incredible resource for me while looking for a placement. They gave me great tips on building my CV, writing cover letters, and connecting with potential employers on LinkedIn. Taking the time to highlight everything I've achieved made me appreciate how much both my university studies and personal life have helped me grow.
Did you take on any part-time work, internships?
Alongside my studies, I've been working two part-time jobs - one at Tesco and one as the Student Engagement Assistant for the Student Union. It was a bit of a challenge at first, but mastering my time management made it work, and the overall experience has been so rewarding.
What’s your favourite / most memorable moment from your time as a Heriot-Watt student?
Working alongside the Student Union to plan events and collect student feedback has been amazing. A standout memory was going to Drag Bingo for Sexual Health And Guidance Week with my friends it was fun, eye-opening, and just a great night. I also really enjoyed using my free time to redesign the layout of the Liberties Café at the Riccarton campus.
What do you love most about the campus/facilities?
Galashiels has been a wonderful place to study. Moving away from the busy energy of Glasgow helped me ease into a calmer pace where I can truly concentrate. It’s a lovely community with great local walks, and attending the Student Union events at MacArts is always a highlight for me the atmosphere is always so lively.
My advice to new students
Get a planner early on. Breaking down your assignments into weekly goals keeps you organised and prevents you from feeling overwhelmed.
