Kirsten graduated from the MEng Architectural Engineering programme in 2018. She has worked on many notable healthcare projects including the New Park House Mental Health Hospital and the Hillerød hospital in Denmark, helping countless people. Today, she is a Senior Mechanical Engineer for Hoare Lea.

ABOUT YOU AND YOUR PROFESSONAL LIFE
How would you describe your current role (& previous roles, if applicable)?
I’m a Mechanical building service consultant engineer mainly designingmechanical and sustainable solutions on projects across the RIBA stages fornew builds and refurbishments.
Project(s) that you are most proud to have worked on
Healthcare Projects – New Park House Mental Health Hospital in Manchesterand Hillerød hospital in Denmark. I also enjoyed being involved in the servicedesign for my former high school (Passive Haus – Tain Community Campus).
Are you attached to any built environment professional organisations orlearned societies?
I am involved with local CIBSE network mainly within their STEM outreach andNEXTGen. I also enjoy attending BCO and Women in Property events.

I gained a good overview of Building Services and beyond, which helped meunderstand the design process and roles within the design team. Also, thepeople you meet at university are the people you will be working with.

Take up all the opportunities you can, from site visits to group project activities.
Any notable memories about your time in Edinburgh?
I gained a lot from completing the 4th Year design project which I am nowenjoying helping with the mentoring of.
Can you sum up your time at Heriot-Watt University?
5 years of hard work but it sent me up well for working in the industry and I amstill good friends with people I studied on my course alongside.
