Profile
Brussels is a common destination for LINCS graduates: the many international organisations and of course EU institutions based there are always on the lookout for talented linguists with English as a mother-tongue. As a result, many of our graduates have made the Belgian capital their home.
And Calum McRae, who will be graduating from the MSc in Interpreting and Translation in December, will soon be joining them since he recently passed the highly selective EU conference interpreting accreditation tests. As a fully accredited EU interpreter, Calum will be able to work alongside many Heriot-Watt University graduates in DGI-SCIC, the EU Commission interpreting services, and in the EU Parliament. Securing such a prestigious accreditation is highly regarded in the interpreting profession and achieving it as such a young age is testament to his talent and hard work.
Calum honed his language and interpreting skills at Heriot-Watt during his MA in Translation and Interpreting. He decided to sign up for the MSc programme to bring his skills to the next level – that of international organisations- and gained valuable experience alongside his academic training, joining field trips to EU institutions or volunteering at the Edinburgh Spanish Film Festival.
