To enhance your career prospects and international experience, we are now offering our established and standard one-year Commercial Management and Quantity Surveying Masters over two years through offering a 'with Industry Placement' alternative.
This Commercial Management and Quantity Surveying with Industry Placement option offers a practical experiential element over the traditional one-year degree structure, allowing students to reflect on theory in practice.

Programme duration
This alternative 'with Industry Placement' degree is offered over two years. The taught part of the programme is the same as its standard Commercial Management and Quantity Surveying Masters counterpart.
The Industry Placement is undertaken between the taught part of the course and the research dissertation. If you cannot or decide not to do the placement option, then you will revert to the standard programme.
Industry placement
Although, the responsibility of finding a suitable placement lies with you, to support you, we are partnering with construction industry professionals and will provide advice on recruiters who offer placement opportunities. You will also have access to the University's award winning Careers Service.

Course content
Year 1
MSc students take eight taught courses plus a research dissertation or integrated project . Students on the Postgraduate Diploma programme take the 8 taught courses only.
Students study seven mandatory courses and choose one optional course.

Students take part in a placement and complete a dissertation.
Industry placement
As the placement is credit bearing, to progress onto the placement year you will need to reach the designated attainment status beforehand. If you can progress onto the placement year and do not secure a placement with industry, we will either offer a University based placement (working on an ongoing research project) if possible or transfer you to our standard 1-year Commercial Management and Quantity Surveying counterpart (without placement). We will support students in finding industry placements and help them get in touch with industry partners.

Entry requirements
Entry
A good honours degree at the equivalency of a UK first class (or high 2:1) honours degree. Due to the popularity of this programme, we prioritise offers to recent graduates as this is an opportunity to gain work experience. Where extensive work experience has already been acquired, we may offer the one-year MSc programme as an alternative.
English language requirements
If English is not the applicant's first language a minimum of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent is required with all elements passed at 6.0 or above. Please refer to English language requirements for further details.
Some applicants may be asked for alternative evidence in line with UKVI recognised English speaking countries. Applicants who have previously successfully completed courses delivered in the medium of English language may be considered and will be required to provide documentary evidence of this. Examples would be secondary school education or undergraduate degree. A minimum of at least one year of full time study (or equivalent) in the medium of English language will be required.
All evidence of English language needs to be dated within two years of the commencement of study.
We also offer a range of English language courses to help you meet the English language requirement prior to starting your master's programme:
- 20 weeks English (for IELTS of 5.0 with no skill lower than 4.5)
- 14 weeks English (for IELTS of 5.0 with minimum of 5.0 in writing and no skill lower than 4.5)
- 10 weeks English (for IELTS of 5.5 with no skill lower than 5.0)
- 6 weeks English (for IELTS 5.5 with no skill lower than 5.5)
