The Island Scholarship, delivered in partnership with the Scottish Government and Orkney Islands Council, will help fund the tuition fees for both UK and International Students on the following three full-time programmes at Heriot-Watt's Orkney Campus:

  • MSc Marine Renewable Energy
  • MSc Renewable and Sustainable Energy Transition
  • MSc International Marine Science

The aim of the Island Scholarship is to:

  • Strengthen Scotland’s workforce in marine science, renewable energy, and sustainable industries in Orkney and beyond.
  • Address financial barriers to postgraduate education and increase participation from underrepresented groups.
  • Research advancements in renewable energy and environmental resilience.
  • Support Scotland’s Net Zero and Blue Economy strategies by equipping graduates with critical skills.

The scholarship, subject to budget allocations, is expected to launch soon. In the meantime, we’re inviting students to register their interest — those who do will be the first to be contacted once the scholarship goes live.
