Kick-Start your Success at HWU

Kick-Start Your Success is the welcome and introductory programme for all new Heriot-Watt students starting taught postgraduate study in January at UK campuses. The January 2026 programme will run on Monday 5 and Tuesday 6 January 2026.

What is Kick-Start Your Success?

The two-day programme aims to facilitate your transition into postgraduate studies. Whether you have just finished your undergraduate studies or are returning to study after a break; whether you studied previously in the UK, or anywhere else in the world, this two-day programme is for you. During Kick-Start Your Success, you will find out more about Heriot-Watt, what to expect from postgraduate study, the services and resources available to you, as well as life outside classes.

Programme outline

Over the two days you will have the opportunity to:

• Find out the distinctive features of being a postgraduate student at Heriot-Watt University.
• Develop some of the academic skills that are essential for success in your degree, especially if you have never studied in the UK before.
• Find out about some of the resources (IT, Library, myHWU Student Portal etc.) that you will need for university.
• Meet your fellow students.
• Meet and talk to current students and learn about their experiences.
• Find out some essential tips for making the most of your time and resources at university, including wellbeing and career support and extracurricular activities.

Who can sign up?

This programme is open to all students starting a Heriot-Watt taught postgraduate programme in January at Edinburgh and Scottish Borders Campuses.
