Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Professor Emeritus Sir Geoff Palmer KT OBE

Heriot-Watt University, in partnership with the City of Edinburgh Council and represented by the Rt Hon Lord Provost and the Lord Lieutenant of the City of Edinburgh, proudly hosted a memorial service celebrating the life and legacy of our late Chancellor, Professor Emeritus Sir Geoff Palmer KT OBE – world-renowned academic, scientist, and human rights campaigner.

The service was held at St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh on Friday 10th October and attended by hundreds of friends, family, and colleagues who gathered to celebrate Sir Geoff’s outstanding contributions to science, education, and social justice. The event featured inspiring speeches from distinguished guests, musical performances, and reflections of his extraordinary achievements.

In a lasting tribute to Sir Geoff’s impact on society, the University has created a scholarship in his name. The Sir Geoff Palmer Memorial Scholarship will support a student of Jamaican descent or Jamaican citizenship to follow in his footsteps; breaking barriers, pursuing excellence, and shaping a fairer future.
