
Biography
Jane is an Assistant Professor in Actuarial Mathematics and Statistics based in the Edinburgh Campus, Heriot-Watt University. Jane is one of a small cohort of fully qualified Fellows of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (FIA) in UK academia.
She joined Heriot-Watt in November 2023 following a career in the actuarial profession, including roles at PwC Dublin and SCOR Reinsurance Ireland, where she held senior positions in actuarial services and risk management. She also holds the Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuary (CERA) designation.
Jane has held several leadership roles alongside her teaching and scholarship responsibilities, including Programme Director for MSc Actuarial Management, MSc Actuarial Management with Data Science and MSc Actuarial Science and Management (Year 2), and Undergraduate Admissions Tutor for BSc Actuarial Science and BSc Statistical Data Science. In these roles she has driven significant and sustained recruitment growth across both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
Jane serves as Schools and Universities Lead on the IFoA Scottish Board -the national regional governance board of the professional body for UK actuaries - through which she has helped build a nationally recognised school outreach programme, engaging over 1,000 pupils across Scotland and establishing partnerships with schools, universities and the actuarial profession. She holds IFoA approval as an Independent Examiner for the MSc Actuarial Science programme at the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Her educational scholarship focuses on advancing evidence-based enhancement within actuarial and professional education, with a particular focus on authentic assessment design and the challenges posed by generative AI in professionally regulated programmes. She will complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning (PGCertTL) at Heriot-Watt in April 2026, at which point she will be awarded Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). She is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA).
