Biography

Dr. Zhijun Wang (also known as Alex Wang) received his PhD in Applied Mechanics from TU Eindhoven in the Netherlands in 2020. He then worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering at TU Delft (Netherlands) until 2024. He is currently an Assistant Professor in Aerospace Engineering at Heriot-Watt University in Scotland, United Kingdom. His main areas of expertise include shape and topology optimization, finite element method (FEM), multidisciplinary design and optimization (MDO), aeroelasticity, and composite structure modeling and optimization. Dr. Wang has gained extensive research experience in wind energy and aerospace engineering through various EU and industrial projects. His current research interests focus on addressing the challenges of lightweight aircraft structures for both conventional and electric aircraft, aiming to reduce in-flight emissions and enable sustainable aviation.
