Biography

Dr Jonathan Swingler is an Associate Professor in the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences at Heriot-Watt University. He has served as Head of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering within the School. He subsequently served as Associate Academic Dean for Science and Engineering at the Univesity. He now serves as Director of Internationalisation (Associate Executive Dean) with oversight of international partnerships for the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences.

He has over 30 years experience in research of the physics of degradation of electrical/electronic materials and devices and over 100 publications. He has developed extensive expertise in the reliability of electrical systems following positions at Loughborough University and the University of Southampton. His work has particularly focused on electrical contacts and interconnecting in automotive, aerospace and power systems. 

He is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics, Chartered Physicst and has served as the Honorary Treasurer for the Dielectrics Group and was Chair of the Dielectric2011 International Conference. He has Chaired the 28th International Conference on Electrical Contacts.
