Biography

I’m Dr Colin Rickman, and I look after the BSc Chemistry and BSc Medicinal Chemistry programmes, as well as supporting our fourth‑year BSc students as their Study Director. I also teach Pharmaceutical Chemistry to our third‑year students covering target-ligand interactions, high throughput screening methods and how you quantify interactions. My research is all about how proteins help cells move things across phospholipid membranes. Right now, my team is exploring the bacterial Type VI secretion system and how it’s able to kill fungal cells. I’m also the Heriot-Watt lead for the Edinburgh Super‑Resolution Imaging Consortium (ESRIC), which is a national centre for advanced microscopy
