Biography

Dr Anne Bernassau is an Assistant Professor in Engineering at Heriot-Watt University, working at the interface of acoustic microsystems, wireless power transfer, wearable sensing, and healthcare technologies. Her expertise includes ultrasonic sensors, microfabrication, piezoelectric transducers, acoustofluidics, acoustic manipulation, energy harvesting, and passive, battery-free sensing systems, including RFID-based and self-powered wearable devices.
Her research focuses on the development of power-autonomous wearable technologies for health monitoring, particularly in neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease. Her work addresses challenges in tremor quantification and remote patient monitoring.
Dr Bernassau has extensive experience with NHS research governance and ethics processes and collaborates closely with clinical partners, including NHS Lothian, to support clinical validation and the translation of engineering innovations into healthcare practice.
