Biography

Dr Emmanuel Opoku

Dr Emmanuel Opoku is an Assistant Professor in Business Management at Edinburgh Business School. He brings a strong interdisciplinary background in leadership, strategy, and human resource management, with a particular focus on the hospitality and tourism sectors.

Prior to his current role, he lectured in Leadership, Strategy, and Innovation at Edinburgh Napier University (April–September 2025). He has extensive teaching experience across a range of management modules, including Employment Relations, Strategic Management, Sustainable HRM, and Leadership.

Emmanuel currently serves as the Global Course Leader for Leading Organisations (undergraduate level) and as the Local Course Leader for Leadership (postgraduate level). He is also the Course Leader for Skills for Business and Business in the Global Environment, which form part of the online BSc programme recently introduced at Heriot-Watt University. In addition, he played a key role in the development of these courses by contributing to the design and writing of several modules. Emmanuel is an AFHEA, and is currently pursuing FHEA. 

He is a prolific researcher with publications in several leading journals in hospitality and tourism management. Furthermore, he serves as a regular peer reviewer for a number of high-impact journals in these fields.

His research interests focus on migrant labour, intersectionality, gender, workforce dynamics in tourism, and workplace mistreatment. His work critically examines the lived experiences of marginalised and underrepresented groups within service-oriented industries.
