Anees Farrukh

Biography

Anees's research centres on social impact evaluation, sustainable development, accountability of not-for-profit organisations, critical perspectives on accounting and the role of accounting in shaping societies. His current projects are focused on accounting for modern slavery, accountability of NGOs, alternative accounts on micro-financing initiatives by the NGOs and counter-accounts on race. His teaching philosophy includes reflective praxis that develops critical and forward-thinking students. His approach is aligned with Heriot-Watt University’s values and engagement on inspiring, belonging and celebrating impactful teaching and learning.

Background

Dr Anees Farrukh joined Heriot Watt university in December 2023. Prior to joining Heriot-Watt, Anees worked for University of Strathclyde, where he served as the Deputy Course Director for Undergraduate Accounting programmes and took a lead role in the development of research-evidence based teaching and professional curriculum development. Anees has taught several accounting courses including Sustainability Accounting, Accounting and Risk, Accounting Theories, Management Accounting, Financial Accounting, Accounting Information Systems and Research Methodology.
