
Biography
Dr. Ayman William Hermansson holds an MSc in Chemical Engineering with Engineering Physics from Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden (2001). As part of his master's studies, he spent one year at Imperial College London, United Kingdom, doing the MSc Programme in Environmental Diagnosis. He subsequently obtained a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).
His research focuses on process control, modelling, simulation, and digitalization, with particular emphasis on the application of optimization techniques, statistical analysis, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to improve process performance, decision-making, and industrial efficiency. His work integrates advanced computational methods with chemical engineering principles to address complex challenges in process systems engineering.
Dr. Hermansson's research and outreach activities strongly support several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through the application of modelling, simulation, optimization, and AI-driven solutions, he contributes to SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy by improving energy efficiency, resource utilization, and sustainable process design.
In addition, he actively advocates for SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, emphasizing practical and achievable everyday actions that individuals and communities can adopt to reduce waste, conserve resources, and promote sustainability. As an educator and researcher, he is also committed to SDG 4: Quality Education, fostering inclusive and accessible learning opportunities, integrating emerging technologies into engineering education, and empowering students with the skills needed for a sustainable and digital future.
His overarching goal is to bridge engineering, data science, and sustainability to develop innovative solutions that contribute to both industrial advancement and societal well-being.
