Biography
Rodney is a member of the Court and the Donations and Investments Committee. He has secured substantial resources for the strategic growth of large, complex, public and private universities, colleges and research organisations in Australia, New Zealand and the United States. His service on governing and advisory boards includes foundations affiliated with higher education institutions, a schools collaborative, a government ministerial advisory committee and peak industry organisations.
Rodney has helped premier institutions navigate changing environments to sustain funding growth. He has led strategic communication and engagement to fund initiatives in the Arts and Design, Biomedicine and Health, Business, Built Environment, Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences, Sciences and Technology. He established industry funding and served as site director of the National Science Foundation Center for Visual and Decision Informatics at Drexel University.
He also served as adjunct faculty in fundraising at Indiana University-Purdue University for seven years, teaching fundraising courses throughout Australasia.He led the industry-wide adaptation of the United States Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) system for professional accreditation in Australia.
Previously, Rodney taught communication at Queensland University of Technology. For over a decade, he was founding editor of ‘Australian Journal ofCommunication’ – a multidisciplinary journal encouraging interaction among researchers, educators and practitioners. Now an editorial board member ofthe journal ‘Media and Language’ at Sofia University in Bulgaria, a continuing interest is in language processes.
His wider interests are writing, the arts, history and the family’s UK ancestry.
