Biography

Shumei Gao is Associate Professor of Economics. She has designed and developed both UG and PG Economics programmes and courses over the years. Her teaching portfolio covers Economics and Finance courses ranging from UG first year to honours year, and to PG MSc levels. Her expertise lies in international trade and finance, advanced economic policy, and econometrics.

Shumei held different roles at the discipline, school, and university levels. She served on the University Sente and Quality and Assurance Committee (2016 -22). Shumei also developed successful international partnerships with China. Her current responsibilities as Associate Dean of the University include academic appointment and overseeing quality and procedural issues.

Her recent research and scholarship activities include international students learning experiences, informal institutions and economic growth in China, and the impact of US tariffs.
