
Biography
Dr Mahmoud Mousa is an assistant professor in Computer Science at Heriot-Watt University. He is also the programme director for BSc (Hons) Computer Science programmes in the School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences at Heriot-Watt University, Dubai Campus.
Dr Mousa has several years of experience in conducting and supervising theoretical and applied research in the area of Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, computer vision and robotics applications.
His earlier research work focused on optical text recognition and optimisation techniques. Currently he is conducting research in AI combined with several technologies such as blockchain to enhance the services being provided over the cloud. Dr Mousa’s current research interest includes AI applications, deep-learning models in computer vision, trust and reputation systems, optimisation and approximation algorithms, and blockchain based solutions. His research would serve several fields such as enhancing educational quality, helping people with special needs, energy efficient usage and process automation using robotics.
Prior to joining Heriot-Watt, Dr Mousa was an Assistant Professor in Hertfordshire University and the Programme Leader for Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence) programme at the same university.
Additionally, he has served as an Assistant Professor in Zagazig University, Egypt and contributed to designing and manufacturing a cubic satellite (ZUSAT) as a joint project between Zagazig University and the Egyptian Space Agency. Moreover, he contributed with a team of Egyptian and American experts to design new multidisciplinary programmes that links education, science, Engineering, technology and arts.
Dr Mousa earned his PhD from University of Liverpool, UK. Till date, has several publications that contribute to his research fields.
