Biography
Dr Renu Gupta is a Provost Fellow at Heriot-Watt University Dubai. She holds a PhD in Business and Management, a Bachelor of Arts (English Hons.) from Queen Mary University of London, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from the UK. She also holds a Master of Arts (Sociology) and a Bachelor of Legislative Law from India. Before transitioning to academia, Renu worked as a corporate lawyer. She has previously taught at Queen Mary University of London, King’s Business School, Bayes Business School, and the University of Sunderland in London. Her academic research covers people and organisation topics in HRM, careers, entrepreneurship, and leadership with an intersectional focus.
Renu’s research is in the people and organisation space covering HRM, careers, entrepreneurship, leadership, and related areas, with an intersectional focus on gender and race. She and her colleagues were commissioned by the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in the UK to investigate the experience of sexual harassment of Black women in the workplace, with the report published in 2024. She was awarded a research grant by the School of Business and Management at Queen Mary University of London to investigate the return‑to‑work experience of professional women in the UK. She also received full funding and a scholarship for her PhD at Queen Mary University of London. She is currently collaborating with academics across multiple geographies on research projects including women entrepreneurs from ethnic minority backgrounds in Finland and the UK; women on boards in Mexico; the impact of parental policies on childcare and careers in Austria; career behaviour of professional women in the UK; and the experience of maternity breaks and return‑to‑work in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
