Biography

Smita is a communications enthusiast and a seasoned professional with over 14 years of diverse experience in communications and public relations. With a strong foundation in corporate and brand communications, she has successfully delivered impactful projects across industries, including education, finance, technology, not-for-profit organisations, real estate, automotive, consumer brands, startups, professional services, and energy, in India and the UAE. Smita’s core expertise lies in strategic communications, media relations, content strategy, reputation management, and strategic planning. Known for her strong problem-solving, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, she has led teams to execute award-winning campaigns recognised by prestigious platforms such as IPRCCA, SABRE, and Kaliedo (ET Brand Equity).

At Heriot-Watt University Dubai, she is a part of the communications team, supporting the development and execution of integrated communications strategies. She manages media engagement for internal stakeholders and key academic schools, working closely with leadership and faculty to position expertise, secure meaningful media opportunities, and strengthen institutional visibility. Her remit spans the School of Social Sciences (SoSS), the School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society (EGIS), the School of Textiles and Design (SoTD), and the Centre of Excellence in Smart and Sustainable Construction (CESC), ensuring consistent, credible messaging across disciplines and platforms.

Smita has authored research-driven articles and opinion pieces, showcasing her ability to distil complex ideas into accessible narratives. She is deeply passionate about initiatives that nurture workplace connections and culture, promote mental well-being, and advocate for responsible, future-focused practices.
