We’re excited to invite you to attend a prestigious guest talk from Dr Ian Duncan entitled, “Can Data Science, AI and Economics Save Healthcare?”.
Ian Duncan is a proud Heriot-Watt alumnus and a leading figure in actuarial statistics and healthcare analytics, with a career that spans multiple countries and industries. He became the 78th Society of Actuaries (SOA) President-Elect and Vice-Chair at the 2025 ImpACT Conference, the SOA’s annual meeting. Ian is Adjunct Professor of Actuarial Statistics at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He has founded or co-founded five companies, most recently Santa Barbara Actuaries Inc., which merged with Arbital Health in 2023. His career has focused on advancing actuarial applications in health care, particularly in predictive modelling and health risk adjustment.
This special event marks the inaugural talk from Dr Ian Duncan as part of the Duncan Laboratory for Insurance Data Science. It will take place on 9 February at Panmure House - the final home of the father of economics, Adam Smith. Panmure House was restored by Edinburgh Business School at Heriot-Watt University to serve as a global centre for economic debate and research.
