Heriot-Watt University Malaysia (HWUM) has been honoured with a National Occupational Safety and Health (NCOSH) Award, recognising the campus’s exemplary efforts in fostering a safe, healthy, and supportive workplace environment.

Organised annually by the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health (MNKKP), in collaboration with the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), the NCOSH Awards celebrate individuals and organisations that demonstrate outstanding leadership and innovation in occupational safety and health across various sectors in Malaysia.

The 2025 award ceremony, held on 17 October at the Mövenpick Hotel & Convention Centre KLIA, featured over 30 award categories. HWUM was awarded the Organisational Award in the Higher Education category, a significant recognition of its long-standing commitment to safety, wellbeing, and sustainability in the workplace.

The award selection process involved a rigorous multi-phase evaluation, including assessment of organisational leadership, employee engagement, strategic planning, resource management, operational controls, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement. Workplace wellbeing and the integration of innovative technologies were also key components of the evaluation criteria.

HWUM began its application process in January 2025, with an initial audit conducted at DOSH Headquarters in Kuala Lumpur in April. Following this, the campus was shortlisted for a final on-site audit at HWUM’s Putrajaya campus in August 2025.

Receiving the award on behalf of the university were Deputy Provost Professor Lai Yin Ling and Deputy Chief Operations Officer and Head of Finance, Hiew Kwee Sen.

This milestone achievement underscores HWUM’s leadership in creating a resilient and forward-thinking institutional culture, further reinforcing its role as a progressive and responsible player in Malaysia’s higher education landscape.
