Heriot-Watt hosts a successful Healthy Ageing Showcase event
The Global Research Institute in Health and Care Technologies recently welcomed over 200 researchers, community leaders, and stakeholders to its Healthy Ageing Showcase, a flagship event dedicated to pioneering research that promotes health and wellbeing in later life.
Opened by Professor Linda Bauld, Chief Social Policy Advisor to the Scottish Government, the showcase offered a platform for lively discussions on cutting-edge solutions that support healthy lifestyles as we age. Special guest Katherine Crawford, CEO of Age Scotland, led a session celebrating the invaluable contributions of older adults in guiding research priorities.

The event featured interactive exhibits and demonstrations of transformative research projects, from AI-driven robotics to assistive technologies that enhance quality of life and empower independent living for older adults. Attendees were able to experience firsthand the ways these innovations are designed to foster independent living, support mobility, and improve wellbeing.
Innovative Research for Real-World Impact
Presentations from leading researchers offered deep dives into advanced topics such as robotics for managing frailty, solutions for active ageing, and the evolving understanding of autism and ageing. These sessions provided valuable insights into how technology is being applied to address the diverse needs of older adults.
Guests also had the chance to connect with community partners, view research posters, and explore the latest innovations at interactive stands. These highlights underscored Heriot-Watt’s interdisciplinary approach to tackling real-world health and care challenges through collaboration and community engagement.

The Healthy Ageing Showcase reflects Heriot-Watt’s commitment to advancing knowledge in health and care technologies, with a strong focus on enhancing quality of life through research-driven solutions.
