Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2023 is running from 6 – 10 March, and it is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the positive impact apprentices and work-based learning makes to Scotland.
This year's theme is ‘Unlocking Potential', with the aim of showcasing what individuals and employers can achieve through apprenticeships.
Across Scotland, over 12,000 employers are involved in offering apprenticeships to around 43,000 apprentices (Foundation, Modern and Graduate Apprenticeships). These apprenticeships are providing the critical skills needed to support economic priorities and renewal, including Net Zero ambitions, to help Scotland to become a stronger, fairer, greener and wealthier economy.
Furthermore, apprenticeships are a great way to open up opportunities for individuals from diverse backgrounds and abilities to gain and develop skills that will support them throughout their life and in work.
As a leading provider of Graduate Apprenticeships, Heriot-Watt is getting behind the national campaign in a number of ways. Heriot-Watt has a strong reputation for STEM-related subjects and that will be the focus for activity during the week. Over 60% of all Graduate Apprenticeships are in STEM-related frameworks.
How Heriot-Watt is supporting Scottish Apprenticeship Week
Each day the University is showcasing its strengths on a different STEM area, including construction/civil engineering, digital skills and engineering
It will be sharing success stories of how our Graduate Apprentices are making a positive impact with their employers
On Wednesday 8 March, to coincide with International Women's Day, Heriot-Watt will be showcasing its Women in STEM Graduate Apprenticeships
And it is partnering with DYW Edinburgh, Midlothian & East Lothian to run a webinar on Unlocking Potential with Graduate Apprenticeships
Jen Henderson, Head of Talent Partnerships at Heriot-Watt University, said “We're proud to have built a community of around 550 Graduate Apprentices from almost 300 employers. Scottish Apprenticeship Week is a brilliant opportunity to shine a light on the contribution that apprentices can make and help us to continue to grow that community. We'd encourage all our employer partners to get involved in the national campaign.”
