Deciding to study Civil Engineering at Heriot-Watt University was a great decision. My four years of study at the Malaysia campus have been invaluable in preparing me for my future career path. The unique cross-global programme, integrating resources and expertise from campuses worldwide, gave me a truly global perspective through teaching, learning, and interactions. Supportive lecturers and academic staff guided us through difficulties, helping us develop knowledge, skills, and self-confidence as civil engineers ready to contribute in our chosen fields. Know what you want to be and become what you want to be. That is the empowerment I gained from Heriot-Watt.

In my career, I work with clients in the semiconductor and data center sectors to design and implement smarter, more efficient systems powered by automation and AI. What excites me most is the chance to bridge technical innovation with real-world business impact, something I first learned to value during my time at Heriot-Watt University. I remember how the projects and group work challenged me to think critically, solve problems creatively, and collaborate with people from very different backgrounds. That diverse environment shaped my global perspective, which has been invaluable in consulting roles across cultures and industries. I also carry with me the importance of adaptability and self-learning, whether it was picking up new tools at university or tackling fast-evolving challenges in my career today. Above all, what stood out at Heriot-Watt was the way academic rigour was always paired with practical relevance, which made the step from university into industry feel natural and deeply rewarding.

My time at Heriot-Watt University Malaysia was truly transformative. The Quantity Surveying programme provided the technical skills and practical experience that prepared me for my role at Turner. From leading group projects and presenting at conferences to an eight-month township development challenge, I gained real-world insight and confidence. Learning BIM was a turning point, connecting theory with on-site practice. Campus life was just as enriching - from late-night study sessions in scenic Putrajaya to a study trip to the UK that highlighted Heriot-Watt’s global standards. The programme offered more than just QS training, with strong commercial and contractual foundations that helped shape my career path.

As the sole female postgraduate (December 2020) in the MSc Petroleum Engineering programme at Heriot-Watt University Malaysia, I am proud to have pursued my dream of working offshore in the oil and gas industry. This programme opened doors to exciting career opportunities. While studying, I grew both intellectually and personally, becoming one of the few female professionals in the field. I am grateful for the eye-opening learning experiences, connections made, and the inspiring lecturers with their remarkable industry expertise. Their support and dedication inspired me to keep chasing my dreams.
