The applications of statistical data science range from economics and medicine, to social and environmental sciences. Our BSc in Statistical Data Science provides a blend of both theoretical and applied elements of modern statistics, and aims to give students the training in modelling, analysing and interpreting real data that is required in the economy, industry and research. The first year of the programme cover basic mathematics, probability and statistics. The final two years focus on specialist topics of statistical modelling and advanced courses in mathematics and data science. A variety of statistical computer packages are used.

It is possible for students who have completed the programme to obtain some exemptions from the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries professional examinations. Our programme is also accredited by the Royal Statistical Society (RSS).

Entry requirements

We have standard entry requirements for all of our courses that you will have to meet.

  • Heriot-Watt University Malaysia Foundation in Business or Science: BCCC (including B in Mathematics and C in English)
  • Foundation: Min CGPA 3.5 including B in Mathematics (further assessment required)
  • A-Level: BBB (including B in Mathematics)
  • STPM: GPA 3.0 for 3 subjects, including GPA 3.0 in Mathematics
  • UEC: 10 points (including A2 in Mathematics and Advanced Mathematics, A2 in English) from 5 subjects not less than B grade.
  • IB Diploma: 28 points for 6 subjects including 6 in HL, AA Mathematics (HL Analysis and Approaches Mathematics)
  • WACE/SACE: ATAR 85 (including 70% in Mathematics Method/Specialist)
  • CPU: Further assessment required
  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma: 90% average score of 6 best relevant Grade 12 subjects including Calculus & Vectors and Advance Functions (Further Assessment is required)
  • Foundation: CGPA 3.5 including B in Mathematics (ssessment is required)
  • China Senior High School Graduation Certificate: 80% including 80% Mathematics (further assessment needed)
  • India Senior School Certificate/Class XII: 80% including 80% in Mathematics (further assessment needed)
  • Indonesia SMA 3: 80% including 80% in Mathematics (further assessment needed)
  • MUFY: 90% (including 90% in Advanced Mathematics)
