Profile

My experience at HWUM played an important role in building the foundation of how I think and solve problems today. The actuarial science programme trained me to approach challenges analytically, pay attention to detail, and develop strong mathematical discipline. These skills turned out to be incredibly valuable throughout my career.

Some of my best memories at HWUM came from the people and the environment. The friendships, the sense of community, and the time spent learning together, whether in lectures, tutorials, or student activities, made my university experience meaningful beyond academics.

After graduation, while applying for actuarial roles, I was introduced to the world of Data Science and Analytics. That discovery was life-changing. I realised that many of the analytical skills I built during my degree naturally transitioned into this growing field. Eventually, I found myself becoming one of the early adopters of Data Science in my career path, and that head start opened many doors. It allowed me to be part of an emerging area that continues to evolve rapidly.

For future students exploring their options, my personal advice is to consider programmes that offer strong analytical and data-driven components, whether it’s data science, analytics, actuarial science, or any field that builds quantitative thinking. The world is increasingly shaped by data, and having that skill set gives you a significant advantage, no matter which industry you eventually join.

I would also like to express my appreciation to Mr Adrian, Dr Alistair, and Dr Soo. Their guidance and support during my time at HWUM helped shape my work ethic and learning mindset, which continue to benefit me today. Thank you for being part of my journey.
