Profile

I am actively involved in contributing to the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) in both my roles as Chairman of the IEM HWUM Student Section, and as Co-Opted Member in the IEM Young Engineers Section (IEM YES). With my team in the Student Section, we were driven to host and support impactful events that genuinely benefit students. This includes supporting the 3D Energy Summit 2026, organising the IEM Engineering Coffee Chat, and launching the Engineering Renewal Case Study Challenge 2025. Alongside this, within IEM YES, I contribute to the Student Affairs Portfolio by working on initiatives that strengthen collaboration among IEM Student Sections nationwide. One key project is the launch of the YES-SS Joint Quarterly Meeting, which gives Student Sections a platform to share their progress, challenges, and ideas with the wider IEM community, helping student committees to align efforts and create greater impact for students nationwide.

Current Experience of the Programme at Heriot-Watt University:

My experience in the MEng EEE programme has been both intellectually demanding and deeply rewarding. Beyond the academic rigour, I believe what sets us apart is the sense of community that we have formed. On paper, the programme does not have as many students when compared to other ones, but that results in close-knitted, drama-free relationships in which everyone supports everyone, and that we are all in this together. This is not only true with my classmates, but also with my lecturers too: afterall, a small community means that we essentially know everyone by name! While there are definitely tough moments throughout a semester, knowing that the people around you always have your back makes those challenges trivially easier to face.

All the lecturers are not only very knowledgeable, but more importantly, are all deeply dedicated to our growth as students. They are approachable, patient, and always willing to go the extra mile to help us learn, improve, and push ourselves to the next level. Their personal encouragement, especially when it comes to exploring ideas, projects, and competitions beyond the classroom, has been incredibly motivating; helping me build a mindset where I’d believe that almost anything is possible. Above all else, the fact that you can always sense their personal care towards you whenever you interact and chat with them will always be a special experience in the programme.

While the course is definitely challenging, the supportive environment and shared sense of purpose make the journey genuinely enjoyable, and it’s something I find a lot of joy in every single day I come to the university.

Why a Prospect should Choose my Programme:

If you’re considering MEng EEE at Heriot-Watt, I’d say go for it! The programme gives you a solid foundation in engineering (1st in the UK!), but what makes it really stand out is the community and support around you. You will not be sitting in a 200-person lecture, nor will you be a mere person in a sea of faces, which means you get to know your classmates and lecturers personally. Everyone is approachable, helpful, and genuinely invested in your growth. You’ll be challenged academically for sure, but you’re never alone. Everyone is in it together, and I’m sure you’ll find that all the mentors, lecturers, seniors, and classmates that you meet are only looking forward to your success. Not to mention, the connections our university and my department have in industry means that you’d be exposed to plenty of opportunities: in projects, competitions, internships, mentorships, etc, making the whole experience not just educational, but fun, inspiring, and one that prepares you for the future in engineering.

Tribute to Anyone in the Programme:

I’d like to acknowledge three groups of people who have made my journey in the programme so special. First and foremost, my lecturers, for giving it your all in your efforts in teaching us all that we need to know, and for your constant and unwavering support in all that we do. Without you all as the backbone of our learning, I don’t think I’d be half as happy or satisfied with my time at Heriot-Watt. Secondly, my friends and classmates, who make every challenge more enjoyable, and turning tough moments into ridiculous humour and awesome laughs. And finally, my seniors, both those that are still here or that has graduated, for generously sharing your guidance, advice, and experiences with me, making it easier to navigate the programme. I wish you all nothing but success!
