Associate Professor, Logistics and Supply Chain Management
MS, PhD
Muhammad Shujaat Mubarik is Associate Professor of Logistics and Supply Chain Management at Edinburgh Business School.
Dr. Mubarik is known for his work in supply chain management, focusing on the strategic integration of human resources and emerging digital technologies to foster sustainable and resilient supply chains. His research is partly rooted in the concept of intellectual capital — the aggregate of human, relational, and structural capital of an organization — and its pivotal role in enhancing the resilience and sustainability of supply chains, particularly in the face of global challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Historically, Dr. Mubarik has pinpointed a gap in the existing methodologies for assessing supply chain mappings. To address this, Mubarik and colleagues (Mubarik et al., 2023) innovated a novel scale that enables organizations to evaluate and improve their supply chain mapping processes.
In his current research , Dr. Mubarik is working on the integration of digital technologies in the supply chain mapping framework to construct a real-time digital twin of supply chains. This work seeks to examine the extent to which a real-time digital twin can augment the sustainability and resilience of supply chains. Specifically, his research explores how digital twins can enhance supply chain transparency, thereby aiding in the mitigation of modern slavery incidents.
