Dr Claire F. Lindsay

Associate Professor in Supply Chain

FHEA; MCIPS; MILT

I am an Associate Professor of Supply Chain within Edinburgh Business School and I teach Supply Chain, Operations and Procurement courses at MSc level. My research focuses on the public sector and predominately in healthcare operations and supply chains. My interests are on contemporary issues affecting operations and supply chain so this includes improvement initiatives such as Lean, sustainability in supply chains and the impact of procurement on the Scottish economy.

In researching these areas, I analyse existing processes and decision-making, as well as roles held by people, to understand the implications of policy initiatives and the potential for improvement.  I take a cross-disciplinary approach. This means I move beyond operations and supply chain management and include sociology, psychology and healthcare theories to help explain what is happening in reality. This allows me to make recommendations for practice as to how we can improve healthcare operations and supply chains to ensure quality, resilience and sustainability.

I have worked on projects involving the National Health Service and Scottish Courts and Tribunals to understand process variation and improvement initiatives. At a supply chain level, I am currently working with National Services Scotland to understand the economic impact of procurement in Scotland.
