How to apply
Heriot Watt University like many organisations has an online application system for candidates called an Applicant Tracking System (ATS).
The system is designed collect your details and register your interests with us. It allows you to submit a CV and other requested documentation, like a Covering Letter if you are asked for one, and any other documents that may also support your application.
Applying for a role
When you use our (ATS) you will be able to use our homepage to find jobs through searching for a specific job title or keyword or by searching for a location. All job postings advertised in our careers site will also have a requisition number e.g. 3000, which you can use to search for specific postings. There are options for also searching for jobs in different areas e.g. Academic, Research or Professional Services.

Your data
The University Group must comply with legislation protecting privacy rights in every jurisdiction where the University operates. As the University and its constituent legal entities are UK data controllers, and also data processors for certain activities, the territorial scope of UK data protection legislation applies to all processing of personal data by and for the University, regardless of where the processing takes place.
As of 1 January 2021, the European Union (EU) General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has been embedded into UK law as the UK GDPR alongside the revised UK Data Protection Act, 2018 (DPA), Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR).
In addition, we must comply with the European Union (EU) General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in relation to personal data collected before 31 December 2020 and when offering goods and services to people in the EU or monitoring their behaviour in the EU.
In Dubai we apply the UK GDPR, DPA and PECR together with United Arab Emirates federal laws that protect personal privacy.
We comply with the Malaysia Personal Data Protection Act 2010, alongside the UK GDPR, DPA and PECR for activities involving our Malaysia campus.

The interview process
Our interview process can vary depending on the role and area of the University. Some interviews may be held on line using applications like Microsoft Teams or in person at one of our campus locations. All of our staff selected for interviews will undergo relevant training to ensure we are welcoming you to our organisation and ensuring you have the opportunity to have a detailed discussion about the opportunity you have applied for.
As well as looking at the criteria for the role which will be outlined in the role description, we will set a number of questions based around your experiences so we can understand how that could match the role we have on offer. Some roles may also ask you to prepare a presentation around a topic related to the role. Any offer of employment made to you with the University will be made to your through our online system.
