MBA Finance (online, 2014)

Your current job title and employer: CFO & COO, Arise Ports & Logistics

What appealed to you most about Heriot-Watt?

Heriot-Watt’s reputation and global outlook really appealed to me, and the online option made that education accessible from anywhere. It felt like the right mix of credibility, flexibility, and practical learning.

What’s your favourite memory of your time as a Heriot-Watt student?

My favourite memory was being part of the discussion boards with students who were constantly sharing ideas and concepts, and the instructors were genuinely active and engaged. I also enjoyed the network I built with our study community in Nigeria, which made the online experience feel fun and connected.

Tell us about your career since graduating from Heriot-Watt.

Since graduating from Heriot-Watt in 2014, I’ve progressed from a Senior Associate up to a Vice President role financial control and planning in 2020, at Africa Finance Corporation. Later that year, I transitioned into the ports and logistics industry, where I took on the role of CFO. In 2022, my responsibilities expanded further when the COO role was combined with my CFO position, and I currently serve as CFO & COO.

How has your Heriot-Watt education contributed to your success?

My MBA education gave me a strong foundation in analytical thinking and applied problem-solving, which I’ve relied on throughout my career. The discipline of balancing an online programme with work also strengthened my time management and resilience. Most importantly, it helped me build the strategic and financial mindset I’ve used as I progressed into senior leadership roles, including my current position as CFO & COO.

What advice do you have for current students or anyone considering studying at Heriot-Watt?

Make the most of the learning community, be a curious learner, ask questions, and look for opportunities to apply your new knowledge in real situations. Finally, connect with other students locally (if you can) and build your network early; it will support you during the programme and can open doors long after you graduate.

What are your aspirations for the future?

For your career?

My career aspiration is to broaden my leadership impact beyond my current CFO & COO role by taking on board and advisory positions where I can help shape strategy, governance, and sustainable growth.

For your local and wider community?

To mentor and sponsor emerging leaders especially across Africa, by sharing practical lessons on finance, operations, and leadership. Longer term, I plan to pursue entrepreneurial opportunities that strengthen trade, logistics capability, and economic impact.
