Academic Quality

The Academic Quality team, part of Registry and Academic Support, offers expert guidance and professional support across Heriot-Watt’s global campuses.

We play an important role in maintaining academic standards, enhancing the student learning experience, and supporting the development of high-quality academic partnerships.

Key Strands

The work of the Academic Quality team is structured around three key strands. Each strand plays a distinct role: safeguarding academic standards, supporting the enhancement of learning and teaching, and managing the quality of our partnerships and accreditation activity. Together, they provide a coordinated approach to maintaining the quality and integrity of our academic provision.

Quality Assurance

We oversee the processes that safeguard academic standards across the University. This includes programme approval, review and monitoring, as well as ensuring compliance with internal regulations and external quality requirements.

Visit our Quality Assurance pages for more information.

Academic Enhancement

We lead initiatives that strengthen learning and teaching practice and support staff in delivering an excellent student academic experience. Our work includes promoting pedagogic innovation, supporting curriculum development, and sharing effective approaches across the University.

Visit our Academic Enhancement pages for more information.

Academic Partnerships and Accreditation

We manage the quality assurance and governance of collaborative partnerships and work with Schools to support accreditation activity. This ensures that all partner and accredited programmes meet the University’s expectations and align with relevant professional, statutory and regulatory body requirements.
