African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS)
The Maths department has been an active supporter of the African Institutes for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) for over a decade.
Every year Maths staff have taught intensive three-months courses at AIMS centres in South Africa, Ghana and Senegal.
Maths Professor Bernd Schroers chairs the Academic Advisory Board at AIMS-Ghana, and over 20 AIMS alumni have come to MACS for their PhDs.
MACS, via the ICMS, also administers the James-Clerk-Maxwell AIMS Fund, paid for by the Scottish Funding Council, which compensates departments which release staff for AIMS teaching.
