The Smart Systems Group at Heriot-Watt University develops cutting-edge technologies and systems for real-world challenges in healthcare, sustainability, and industrial automation.

Our research spans acoustofluidics, biomedical sensing, AI-driven modelling, system integration, and advanced materials.

Typical applications include automatic sorting systems of plastic microparticles, microwave sensors for wind turbine failures, high-power electronics interconnections and surgical scalpels inspired by nature.
