A history of 25 years of collaboration built on the success of research collaborations focusing on marine robotics, nanorobotics, electric power industry robotics and medical robotics. There is also a strong link with Shandong Province with Heriot-Watt academic staff playing a key role in the scientific development of the province.

A specialised four-year dual degree programme, BEng Robotics was launched in 2020 combining split site training in the discipline of engineering robots with a strong focus on software developments for robotics.

In September 2025, partners will launch a new four-year dual degree programme, BSc Computational Physics which marks another milestone in the partnership. The split site programme will combine the expertise of partners in the discipline of Physics creating a one-of-a-kind study programme offered by a Chinese university.
