Sports Science is the study of physiology, psychology, biomechanics, nutrition and strength and conditioning to maximise performance, improve health and reduce the risk of injuries in sport and exercise.

Why study Sports Science at Heriot-Watt?

Our Sports Science degrees aim to maximise your employability by gaining hands-on experience alongside teaching. This includes placement opportunities with our sporting partners and the opportunity to gain professional qualifications within your course modules.

Our course structure is flexible in design, which means you can tailor your learning according to your specific interests and career aspirations. What's more, our degrees are registered with the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences, the professional body for sport and exercise science in the UK.

Our facilities

Our campus is home to Oriam - Scotland's Sports Performance Centre which forms part of our £33 million sport estate. This includes a physiotherapy suite, a rehabilitation centre with hydrotherapy pool, human performance laboratories and a strength and conditioning gym.

We have a FIFA-accredited indoor synthetic 3G pitch, the largest of its type in Europe with a 28 meter high roof. As well as a synthetic outdoor pitch, five grass pitches and two grass rugby pitches. Indoors we host a twelve court sports hall, a four court sports hall, two sport studios and eight squash courts open to all levels of sport and ability.
