They put specialist business theory through a real-world filter and develop graduates who can add real value to organisations.

You will learn about strategy, marketing, human resources and legal matters, and then apply this learning to specific management problems and case studies of international and local companies. You will learn to understand business structures, strategies and processes and develop valuable transferrable skills for the real world, such as communication, problem solving and team-work skills, as well as creativity, confidence and research abilities.

Industry focus

In the Department of Business Management, we aim to ensure that teaching is industry-focused. When developing course content, our experienced academics consult with an Industry Advisory Board of business leaders who help us identify current skill gaps in industry.

One outcome of this approach is our integrated Professional Development Track (PDT) which runs through all International Business Management degrees. The PDT courses have been designed to ensure that all of our graduates are ready to add value to employers as soon as they graduate. You will learn how to analyse, report, present and consult in a professional way and learn about the real-world context of the global business world.

Theoretical learning is complemented by regular guest speakers and many of our teaching staff continue to work in business and industry. This helps to ensure our courses are particularly relevant and practical, providing you with the skills and knowledge to succeed in an ever-changing and competitive business environment.

Go Global

Heriot-Watt University’s unique Go Global project is available to those studying our International Business Management degrees. This means you can study one semester or more of your degree across our three main campuses in Edinburgh, Dubai and Malaysia. The chance to travel, study and gain experience in three different countries with very different cultures helps prepare our students to become global citizens and stand out in recruitment markets following graduation.
