eVisa

The UK government is replacing your BRP card to eVisas, this means instead of having your card with you, you can now access your immigration status online through your UKVI account.
If your BRP card has an expiry date of 31st December 2024, however your course extends beyond that date, then the remainder of your permission to stay in the UK will be shown on your eVisa.

How to access your eVisa?
You can access your eVisa through your smartphone, laptop/iPad or computer device.
You MUST create a UKVI account first to gain access to your eVisa.
How to create an UKVI account?
Before you begin you will need an active Mobile number and email address that you can access, you will need these details each time you prove your immigration status online. You will also need one of the following:
- a valid passport and your visa application number - this is a global web form (GWF) number or unique application number (UAN)
- Your biometric residence permit (BRP) number although you will not be able to use this after June 2025.
After you have keyed in all the relevant details you will be asked to download the ‘UK immigration: ID Check’ app which is the final part before you submit your information.
Once you have read through and input your information, you can then press submit.

What happens next?
An email will be sent to you from the address you provided at the start of your form.
When you receive your email, it will ask you to view your eVisa.
What a sharecode is and how to get access to it
A sharecode is provided by UKVI which allows you to securely share your immigration status with the University.
How can I get access to it?
- Log onto your UKVI account
- Select the purpose of the sharecode
- Generate the sharecode (this will be valid for 30 days)
- Provide the sharecode to the University or alternatively upload this through your student portal
To comply with UKVI requirements we must have your sharecode, failure to do so can result in the cancellation of your Visa.
You can come to the Student Service Centre with your sharecode or alternatively and a more efficient way you can upload your sharecode through the student portal.
How to report an error
If you notice there is an error with your eVisa then you must report it to UKVI, an error can be:
- Incorrect or wrong spelling of name
- Visa restrictions
- Valid/end date
- Immigration status
How to travel with your eVisa
It is important to check all your details are correct on your eVisa before you travel to avoid any delays at the UK border.

Check your eVisa is correct before you travel - GOV.UK.
If for any reason your airline is unable to check your permission to travel (your eVisa) or you have been unable to access your eVisa, you can ask them to contact the UK Border Force Carrier Support Hub.
Alternatively, if you are unable to demonstrate your permission to travel to your airline, you can call the passenger support helpline on 0800 876 6921 at any time. Calls are free of charge. If you cannot call UK 0800 numbers, use +44 203 337 0927. You may have to pay - check with your phone provider. This service cannot help with general visa advice or technical issues.
