Welcome Back to Heriot-Watt!
August 2021
It can sometimes be difficult for students returning from a break in their studies to settle back into university life. Welcome Back to Heriot-Watt allows students returning from a Temporary Suspension of Studies (TSS) to visit the University before the start of the academic year, allowing the opportunity to ask questions and re-introduce themselves with the learning environment.
Get Ready for Success at HWU
1 - 3 September 2021
Get Ready for Success at HWU is an exciting opportunity for students to get a head start at university. Many students find the move to university challenging, and Get Ready for Success can help to make the transition easier by allowing you to find out about, and find your way around, the University in advance. More information can be found on the Get Ready for Success at HWU webpage.
Mature students success event
September 2021

At this event, mature students (any student over the age of 21) have the opportunity to network and find out useful tips and advice from both current and previous Heriot-Watt mature students. Also, student support services and careers advisors will highlight the support available during and after University study.

In 2020, we ran our first ever online Mature Student Success event, which was very successful. Mature students who attended the event said the event was a great way to hear about the unique skills mature students have at University.

Planning for Success
October 2021
Planning for Success provides students with the opportunity to learn skills and techniques to get the most out of their academic study. During the session students can:
  • reflect on their university experience so far
  • get help to identify areas to improve on and to create a plan of action to help goals
  • recap on the support available throughout the academic year
  • ask questions.

Mental Health and stress awareness

Whether it is your first or final year at university, you may benefit from some help in the build-up to exams and assessments. The Student Success Advisors have created an Assessment Checklist that can be a useful guide to what to do before and during an assessment.
