Research degrees (PhD)

A researcher notes down on paper while in a focus group.

Psychology at Heriot-Watt University bridges the gaps that are often found between theory and real-world application. Our research is grouped under three main themes:

  • Work, Society & Environment;
  • Lifespan Health & Wellbeing;
  • Cognition, Brain & Behaviour.

In addition to the research that has been funded by research councils, much of our research is carried out in collaboration with external bodies from the public and private sectors such as the NHS, the Scottish Executive, the Health and Safety Executive, and the Transport and Road Research Laboratory.

Duration: Normally 3 Years

We welcome applications from candidates whose interests overlap with our three research themes of ‘Work, Society and Environment’; ‘Lifespan Health and Wellbeing; ‘Cognition, Brain and Behaviour’
