Applied English, Translation and Interpreting Summer School

Date: 29th July - 23rd August 2019

Venue: Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh Campus, Scotland, UK

Our Applied English and Interpreting course focuses on strengthening linguistic skills, enhancing awareness of British culture and society, as well as practical interpreting skills.

The first week of the course will focus translation, the second week on English language and culture, and the third and fourth weeks on practical interpreting skills.

The course will be taught by expert staff from the Department of Languages and Intercultural Studies (LINCS), which has been offering courses in Translation and Interpreting since 1970 and is one of only four UK university departments that have been granted membership of CIUTI, an international body which brings together universities which specialise in translating and interpreter training.

Our new state of the art digital interpreting labs will be available exclusively for use by students on this course.

Who is this course for?

  • Applicants interested in improving their cultural and linguistic command of English.
  • Students wanting to further their interpreting or translating training over the summer.
  • Professional translators and interpreters who wish to refresh or develop their English (for instance with a view to adding English as a B language).
