Scottish Borders Festivals

Our Scottish Borders campus is located in the pulsating heart of Scotland's luxury textile industry, with researchers focused on developing increased future resilience and solutions to challenges to the textile industry.

To share their research with their communities, researchers at the campus take part in a range of local festivals, host events and open days and celebrate the innovation of students through their annual degree show.

Festivals and Exhibitions

Researchers from Heriot-Watt University have been involved in festivals in the region for many years, including Bang goes the Borders and the Beyond Borders International Festival

Bang Goes The Borders is a free science festival co-funded by Heriot-Watt, which takes place every September at St Mary's School, Melrose. The one-day festival features more than 30 different hands-on activities and workshops aimed at youngsters from 5 to 13 years.

Each year, more than 1000 youngsters from across the region get to grips with all things scientific and environmental. It's a great opportunity for our researchers to share some of their research with future scientists and entrepeneurs.

Beyond Borders runs dialogue projects and cultural events all year round, culminating in the Beyond Borders International Festival, which takes place throughout August every year at Traquair House in the Scottish Borders and in Edinburgh.

Degree Show

For years, our students have delivered innovative, creative & industry standard work which is celebrated in their end of year Graduate Degree show. The show is open to the public, and celebrates and showcases the innovation of our students.

For the past two years, the show has been moved online, with RE IMAGINE, our online digital showcase for 2021 graduates. This digital environment allows audiences to enjoy and immerse yourself into the exciting work our students have produced, whilst working through extraordinary times & all that they have conquered during their final Under Graduate year.
