Heriot-Watt University is one of 12 universities across the country to receive a Strategic Support to Expedite Embedding Public Engagement with Research (SEE-PER) grant from UK Research and Innovation.

The SEE-PER projects aim to enrich and embed cultures where excellent public engagement with research (PER) is more effectively and strategically supported.

The project at Heriot-Watt, led by Professor Garry Pender (Deputy Principal for Research & Innovation), Dr Laura Wicks (HW Engage), and Dr Ryan Woolrych (EGIS), looks to explore how we can better engage the public in our research, and how to create a publicly engaged university of the future.

From 2017-2019, we have been consulting our local communities to develop a Public Engagement Implementation Plan, that addresses community and university wants and needs. We have also been exploring internally how we support our academics in delivering quality, mutually-beneficial public engagement. In 2020, we will launch our public engagement implementation plan, a key deliverable of Strategy 2025, co-developed with our local communities.
