Ruth Moir was appointed as University Secretary in October 2020 and has around 30 years' experience working in University Administration and the higher education sector in the UK and overseas. As University Secretary, Ruth is responsible for governance and the University's administration, with particular responsibility for Planning and for Governance and Legal Services, providing leadership as part of the University's executive team across all our locations.

Previously Assistant Principal for International Development at Heriot-Watt, she was responsible for international strategy and the development and delivery of major international projects, market strategies for Transnational education (TNE) and strategic development of the institution's overseas campuses. Ruth also worked for Heriot-Watt University in Dubai as Deputy Head and then as Head of Campus from 2006-2008 and was Programme Manager for the establishment of Heriot-Watt University Malaysia in 2014. She currently serves as a Board Director of Heriot-Watt University Malaysia and was a Board Director of Edinburgh Business School from 2011-2017. She is a Warwick University graduate and has an MA in Education Management and Leadership from the Open University.
